So, I'm going to introduce to you a series I'm starting called #hof *history of fashion*. Starting with the 1950's! I accidentally deleted the first copy of this post, so I hope you learn lots...!
In the second world war, there was no fashion because economy was low, and there was no money for fabric. Clothing was very basic, with little detail and color. Then world war ll ended, which meant fashion was back! Fabric was being made, and the economy was up, which meant people started spending lots of money on fabric and clothing, layering fashion, and adding fancy bunches, and colors.
The fashion industry was geared towards woman, not so much men. It also had a "perfect body" expectation, a very small waist, and defined hips and bust. The thing about the 50's is fashion was a way for someone to "show their identity", it held high standards. Another thing woman used fashion for was getting a husband! "dress to impress" I guess... <hah. Next, was consumerism. People would buy all kinds of outfits, matching their daughters or siblings. We definitely don't do that much now a days! Sadly in the 50's, your clothing and body held you too a certain spot in society. Just like now, you might be "cool" if you had expensive shoes or clothing.
There wasn't much change in clothing, (every thing kinda looked the same) but there was plenty of different patterns and colors! Then teens started getting their own style too! That was a big change... Their clothes started getting put in catalogues and they weren't wearing what everyone els was wearing. I'm sure they were all happy about that! Towards the end of the 50's, clothing started to become more fitting, as you can see on the bottom picture. Thats about it! Sooo, ttyl -dom
